When digital technology came on the scene in
the mid-80's, many stock photographers thought they heard
the death knell of traditional stock photography. They saw
photographers and photobuyers all switching to scanners,
E-Mail, and Photoshop. Many have. But the mainstream is
still film-based photography. To wit: Fuji, the Japanese
film producer, will begin manufacturing film in the U.S.
for the first time, increasing their competitive clout
against Kodak. Just when photographers were wondering if
they should toss away their Nikons and consider investing
in a digital camera, Fuji has come through with its
announcement of a new film manufacturing plant to be built
in Greenwood, S.C.
Fuji also has its own Advanced Photo System, as does
Kodak. APS features three formats with the same film, and
uses a 35mm-type film and a special camera.
