CD-ROM DISCS featuring stock photos are beginning to find a place in the industry. Initially thought of as convenient compendiums of images for emergency use, agencies now find that CD-ROM discs serve as catalogs of ideas and concepts. Titles such as Science, Nature, Humor, Sports, allow art directors to search for subjects using in-built search engines (for both MACs and PCs). When buyers find a desirable image, they phone the agency or photographer and have an original sent to them via e-mail, disk, or FedEx. A New York stock agency, The Stock Market, recently announced their new line of "Idea Discs," each containing 2,000 72 DPI images, that will be sent to art directors on a sort of Book-of-the-Month basis. The agency supplies its subscribers with a "CD organizer". There is no charge for the service to qualified subscribers.(The Stock Market (TSM), 360 Park Avenue South, NYC 10010; Ph: 800 999-0800 Fax: 800 283-0808; www.tsmphoto.com)
