DOT COM DILEMMA

A "domain name" on the Internet is like your personal automobile licence plate. The cost is $35 annually and you pay the first two years in advance. Back in 1993 when domain names were first issued by a private company, Network Solutions, under a government contract, there were only 7,000 names. Now it has mushroomed to millions. Since so many names are already taken, the Feds have decreed that a solution for the problem has to be solved by September 1st. That's when Network Solutions' contract runs out. We'll keep you posted.
