A Bird In Hand

Looking for the very best place to take your shots? Here's a word of caution.

Don't be like our friend Dick, the over-prepared photographer. Dick arrived in Paris with a week to shoot his story. He spent the first day walking the streets, spotting locations.

The next six days it rained. That beautiful morning light dancing on the Seine and that warm afternoon sun on the Eiffel Tower were a wash. And so was his shoot.

When you're traveling, your time is limited. Don't spend hours getting an overview. Shoot!

Rule 1: Shoot as you scout your locations. (You can always trash the unsuccessful frames.) Rule 2: Use the photographer-tested technique of scouting the post card racks. The locations are recognized landmarks shot by the local pros.
