A NEW DIVISION of stock photography in the future will be computer art, those imaginative situations that only inventive graphics people can create on their high-end computers. Using a computer (rather than a camera, pen, brush, or pencil) the computer artist begins with a basic idea, finds components for the idea in existing drawings, photos, sketches, and elements that are available through public domain clip art. The result is both commercial stock photography (ad agencies and corporate buyers love it), and editorial photography (contemporary situations can be represented). PSI subscriber Dale O'Dell produces computer graphics from his hideaway studio in the foothills of Arizona. "Fifteen years ago computer graphics opened up a new creative horizon for me. Finally, after all this time, more and more art buyers are beginning to appreciate this sector of stock photography."
