Are world markets around the corner? An interesting
survey published in the January issue of INTERNATIONAL
LIVING under the title, "Strange New Statistics," gives an
insight:
"As with every year of computing the Quality of Life
Index, we found some strange and unexpected numbers. We
found that the number of newspapers per 1,000 people is
vastly higher in Russia (1,119) than in Italy (154). We
found that Mongolia has the second most annual museum
visits per 1,000 people (4,400) of all the countries we
profiled. Meanwhile, Italy, a country full of museums,
has only 410! And France has even fewer - 210. The
literacy rate in both Mongolia and the Ukraine is 98%,
higher than in the United States, Singapore, Portugal, or
Israel.
"These are just a few of the unexpected numbers we found.
These statistics make it clear that we should be careful
about our Western bias and about how seriously we take
statistics. It's impossible to measure art and taste with
numbers."

MORE, --OR LESS? If more photos become available to
photobuyers through Web sites, print catalogs, Online
Services, and CD-ROM discs, will there be a glut on the
market? Will prices fall? We can look to the proliferation
of videos for a parallel. There are more video stores now
than before. There are more films being produced than ever
before. There are more cinemas than before. The supply has
not exceeded the demand. One thing we can learn from the
video marketing explosion: The better quality and service
you provide, the more successful your enterprise will be.
