SHARING PHOTOS
with friends and family through the Internet will soon become part of the world-wide communication process. Kodak, by teaming up with Picturevision (plus Konica, Storm Technologies, Wolf Camera, and American Greetings) to form "Photonet," has recruited 40,000 users. Kodak Photonet has now formed a partnership with America Online, which means that an additional 11 million AOL subscribers are potentially new Photonet users. Once consumers work out the bugs, photobuyers will be able to use a similar on-line service to accept digital representations of your stock photography. We will keep you posted.

It's one thing to capture a good stock image, but another to keep it around for generations. Eastman KODAK, for their interest and yours has been studying the archiving of photography' since 1949. In 1975 they founded the world's first institutional photo conservation department. They now train students and conservators. The George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film, in Rochester NY, the world's oldest museum of photography, is where all this happens.

They were recently awarded a $2.18 million grant by the Mellon Foundation to step up the work. The grant will allow the hiring of more workers. Thanks to digital imaging they are moving forward at an accelerated pace to explore the permanency of images through digital techniques. (900 East Av, Rochester NY 14607-2298 (716) 271-3361.
