WHY DO YOU DO IT? Editorial photographs make statements.
Our customers buy our ability to make a statement with our
photos. Your pictures can be poetical, comical or
thunderously revealing. They say something. Few people
have the kind of opportunity to make their mark on society
that editorial stock photographers do.
We all have our favorites when it comes to classic
photography, whether it be a photo by Margaret
Bourke-White or David Burnett. These compelling
photographs live on.
It's certain that not even the giants in our field, nor
ourselves, are in it for the money. Our industry is not
large -most estimates put it at $800 million. That's about
the size of the cat-litter industry. When you invest in
your stock photography, you are investing in yourself, and
the long-term gratifying intangible achievements it
provides.
No photographer has ever achieved--nor gunned for-- the
status of millionaire. Then again, even many a billionaire
would rather leave this planet with the acknowledgements
and fulfillment that artists, poets, and photographers
have achieved. -RE
