Attention Internet Shoppers! BlueLight Special!

That’s right. Kmart, via it's BlueLight.com Internet Service Provider (majority owned by Kmart), is offering up unlimited Internet access service for just $8.95/month, with the first 3 months for $6.95/month. "Americans shouldn't have to pay nearly $25 each month for the privilege of surfing the Internet and shopping online," says Heidi Gibson, General Manager. And you can earn months by purchasing (non-clearance) items on the site. Such a deal, eh? BlueLight claims more local access numbers than any other dial-up service, with nearly twice as many as AOL. All of which should translate into fewer busy signals and a higher service level. (If you have problems accessing the site with Netscape, try Internet Explorer.)

Pop-up Bugs

Bugged by all those pop-ups and pop-unders and pop-overs while you surf the Net? Here’s a couple of programs you can try (no endorsement, natch!). There is a free program called Pop-Up Stopper from PanicWare, www.panicware.com. Then there’s a $29.95 product called AdSubtract Pro from Intermute (www.adsubtract.com). Each has its own strengths and quirks. Ultimately, there is the market approach: Never buy from any company pushing these ads onto your screen real estate!
