Kodak and Intel Join Forces Photography giant Kodak and Intel, the world's largest chip maker, are going to jointly develop digital imaging products in a broad patent cross-licensing agreement. Kodak will use Intel's technology to upgrade their Qualex photofinishing labs, which will include new Kodak Picture CDs. George Fisher, Kodak's Chairman/CEO, said, "Working together, Kodak and Intel will create a path for consumers and professionals alike to transport their pictures into the digital world, quickly, easily, and at low cost." For Intel's part, they'll be promoting new products and uses of digital images enabled by high-powered computers. (Let's hope they remember photographer's copyright!) Where'd That Web Site Go? Have you seen one missing lately? It may have been shut down by the hosting ISP (Internet Service Provider). In the battle against pirated and illegal uses of copyrighted material on Web sites, more and more infringed individuals and companies are going directly to a site's hosting service and informing them of the illegal use. Since the material exists on the ISP's servers, they can be held liable for copyright and trademark infringement committed by their subscribers. Thus, the ISP does not need any court order to remove and/or shut down such sites, and most will act immediately when so informed. So, while you may want to contact the Web site owner when you find unauthorized use of photos and other copyrighted material, don't forget to go for the jugular and also contact the site's hosting service. The CrossPad Venerable A.T. Cross company, maker of fine writing pens for 150 years, has created a useful addition to the electronic notetaking world. Dubbed the CrossPad, it uses a special Cross pen with an electronic clipboard that holds standard writing pads and lets you take notes via pen-and-ink. The secret is that there's a transmitter tucked behind the ink cartridge that communicates with the Pad to store your writing in digital form for later uploading to your Windows 95 computer. You can view the notes in either graphical or digital (converted text) form on your computer. Depending on the model, it can hold 50 or 100 pages of notes. And, you still have the original "hard copy" as backup. Of course, penmanship still counts.
