Can I Photograph People In Public ?

“I’d like to take human interest pictures – people interacting, working, doing the usual things of daily life. But I’ve read you need a model release if you expect to get your pictures published…”
I’ve often heard this from would-be editorial photographers.
It’s faulty information. In fact, it’s plain wrong.
You can photograph in public, and if the picture is used for an editorial purpose (to inform or educate the public) your photobuyer will not require a model release.
“Well, then, how did this myth about ‘model releases required’ come about?” You ask.
