Coding Transparencies

Transparencies need to be grouped in such a way that their retrieval is facilitated - for yourself or an assistant. They also need to be individually identified so accurate records can be kept of what you and/or your client possess. An easily-managed coding system is essential to a well-organized stock photography file. Each image receives an individual code that remains with it throughout its time in the library. Once a code is assigned, the history of the transparency can be monitored. A well-defined coding system will make life easier, but it will probably take several hours or even weeks to set up. Try to institute a coding system early on - one that will grow with you.
