American Route 66: Home on the Road, by Jane Bernard and Polly Brown, Museum of New Mexico Press, ISBN # 0-89013-459-6, 2003, 172 pages, 116 photos, hard cover, large format, $45. I drove the length of Highway 66 twice, in mid-summer, 1965, and again 3½ years later, in midwinter. Bernard and Brown's perceptive photos and accompanying interviews brought it all back. Their book is a useful example of what editorial photographers can accomplish when they document a segment of a society. -David Arnold
The only part of Highway 66 I've experienced first hand is the short section of its West end that goes through Santa Monica. But after studying this book I feel as if I too have experienced its topology and sociology. American Route 66 is a model of how to bring a social setting to the pictorial page-and turn your photographic passion into a marketable book. - Gail Rutman http://www.photosourcefolio.com/bookstoreone.htm#0890134596 .
